Guns and Horses Giddy Up

Ah, the month of May.

In some ways, it is an amazing light at the end of the tunnel. And in other ways, it is one of the hardest months to stay above water. The weather has broken (finally), so the grass at home needs cut several times a week and my children want to play outside and stay up late ("But it's not dark yet! It can't be bedtime!"). School is still in full swing, with baseball and softball games (when weather permits!), in addition to events like prom, field trips, awards ceremonies, etc etc to attend. May is full of things to do.

That light at the end of the tunnel feels farther away than it really is since my calendar agenda is longer than usual for each day. Students are feeling the pressure too. Each course is gearing up for a final exam or cumulative project. Every teacher is trying to get that last bit of curriculum covered before summer break. Underclassmen have scheduling for next year, while seniors are planning graduation celebrations. It's overwhelming for everyone.

So here is to celebrating the students and parents and educators that are still getting it done. Left foot, right foot....keep marching ahead. Even if you have to change the calendar view from a month to 2 weeks to fit it all on the screen. When you have three wardrobe changes in a day to get through all the stuff there is to do. If you have to pick up pizza for dinner (or take-out, or fast-food, I don't judge) multiple times a week...

Find the balance. Find a way to get it done. The list only stays long if we stop crossing off the things we need to do. Students- Complete your projects. Study for the test. Turn in homework. Parents- there are only a limited number of nights when dinner and homework and showers (if you are still the primary decision maker on when your kids must shower because they cannot be trusted with this decision) and bedtime are all a factor in the same night. Teachers- you can do it! The papers will all get graded, the numbers entered on the computer, and classrooms will soon be dark and quiet. We. Can. Do. This.

So no matter the task be big or small, dig in and don't give up. Like a fictional George Washington once said, "Guns and horses giddy up." Get what you need and let's do this.

So many lessons from Hamilton. If you have never listened to the album, put it on your list.
For June.
