How do you measure a school year

🎶Seventy three thousand, eight hundred and seventy minutes
Seventy three thousand, eight hundred moments so dear
Seventy three thousand, eight hundred and seventy minutes
How do you measure, measure a school year??🎶

In Masses, in lunchesIn homework, in cups of coffeeIn gym class, in dances In practice, in gamesIn seventy three thousand, eight hundred seventy minutesHow do you measure a year in the life?

It’s Fiddlesticks show week, which has got me all musical and sentimental.

It’s senior Mass week. It’s final WJFK episode. Its seniors last full week of school. It’s breaking my heart.

In August, the world was our oyster.

We celebrated Mass 12 times this year, with 8th grade promotion Mass and Baccalaureate to come.

We danced the night away at Homecoming, Prom, and junior high Spring Fling.

We were district finalists in girls golf, boys soccer, boys basketball; state qualifiers in boys golf; state runner up in football; state champs in cheer (and baseball and track are still competing!)

We killed it at Law Day and Speech & Debate and inducted new members into our National Honor Societies.

We had interims and midterms and homework and essays due. That philosophy assignment about the ship and new boards and when is it a new ship. The times we set up the dining hall for Mass or reset it for lunch. Olympic Day and Service Day and Catholic Schools Week. Food drives and toy drives and root beer float sales.

It’s May and our time is running out.

Like the song goes: remember a year in the life of friends. I’m going to choose to remember this year for the friendships I made. With parents. With students. With my staff.

Thank you to those parents and students and staff who made this year a blessing. I cannot adequately put into words how much it means.

Kennedy Today. Kennedy Forever.
